My Name Is Lilly — And My Forever Family Found Me
I'll never forget the day I met my forever family. I was still a pup when we met. It was a very hot California summer day. The temp was so hot I couldn't walk on the road — it burned my paws. I was thirsty, hot and scared. I hid under a shrub by a house trying to get some shade.
Then all of a sudden this pickup truck stopped near me and Berney got out and started walking towards me. Part of me said RUN — but there was something in the way he approached. I knew it was OK and I ran out and jumped up into his open arms. He carried me to the truck and there was Nicolette. She opened the window and I jumped in and onto her lap. Berney got back in the truck and we went to my new house.
When we got there there were already two other dogs. One was tiny and they called her Tiki. The other was huge and she was called Sheba. Sheba approached me first and checked me out. When she was done she wagged her tail and told Tiki it was OK. Tiki came over and we all got along wonderfully. I knew this was going to be my forever family. Now I could relax and enjoy life.
I didn't know how to make the cats feel safe with me so I mostly just stayed away from them. It's safer for my nose — that's for sure.
Life was wonderful until I noticed something didn't smell right. When I looked at Mama B I could tell something was wrong with her. I tried to stay close so she could feel safe and keep everyone away. One day Berney took Mama B somewhere. When he came back she wasn't with him. There was a heaviness about it all. I knew I would never see her again. That was sad — even though we didn't play much.
Not long after that Berney and Nicolette brought home two male black cat kittens — Midnight and Shadow. They added them to our family. I liked it, even though my nose didn't so much. Still, they were more fun to play with than Mama B and Ebony were. Their slaps didn't sting as much either.
Life with my forever family was great — and then out of nowhere Berney brought home another dog. Her name is Freya. She isn't as big as Sheba was but she's still big enough that I can run under her. She is fun and has a lot of energy. I think she could run all day. She definitely wears me out.
I'm so happy she is doing so much better. When she first got here she was afraid of her own shadow. She was stuck in the corner and wouldn't come out. One day Berney got through to her and she relaxed a little. That's all I needed — I was in and we were playing just like that. She is so much fun now that the real her is here.
I can't wait to see who is coming to our family next. Whoever it is we will love them up and make them feel at home.
